Today, we thought it would be worth discussing organization. Specifically, kitchen organization! Organizing your kitchen cabinets can make cooking easier, storage a breeze, and reduce clutter. Here are 10 tips to get you started:
Empty & Categorize
Start by going through each cabinet individually. Once each cabinet has been gone through, now would be a good time to decide where items will go back in. We find keeping similar items together helps remove wasted space.
Declutter
Find that old pot you’d been looking for? Maybe a couple cans that never got worked into dinner that one night? Items that haven’t been used, or you don’t plan on using might be worth tossing/donating to save up some extra space.
Prioritize Based on Use
Deciding what items should go where is all about personal preference. We like to organize our cabinets based on use! Items like everyday pots, plates and bowls will go on the lower, easier to reach shelves. Whereas less used items, such as appliances, may be better suited for higher, out of reach, shelves.
Maximize Vertical Space
Use shelf risers, drawer dividers, or stackable bins to make the most of your cabinet’s vertical space. This creates extra room without clutter and helps keep like items with each other.
Utilize your Doors
Door racks and hooks can be a lifesaver! Hang hooks or racks on cabinet doors for small items like measuring spoons, lids, or spices. This keeps them out of drawers while remaining in reach.
Organize by Zones
If you tend to prepare food in one area of the kitchen, it may make more sense to keep prep items close by! For example, keep baking supplies near the oven and prep tools near the cutting board.
Use Clear Containers
Nothing is more frustrating than trying to find that one spice hidden behind a wall or other spices. Clear containers can make searching for spices less of a challenge, and less of a mess- I’m looking at you knocked over spice jars! This not only helps with visibility and freshness but also makes your cabinets look more organized.
Label Everything
Labels help maintain order and keep everyone in the household on the same page as to where things go. Label shelves, bins, and containers for quick identification.
Rotate Seasonal Items
Store seasonal items, like holiday bakeware, at the top of your cabinets or in less accessible spots. Rotate these with frequently used items when they’re needed.
Regularly Maintain
The true secret to organizing your cabinets is consistency! Periodically check your cabinets for items not seeing much use, food items that may be reaching their expiration date, and just to reorganize as your needs change. Like any good habit, it takes repetition.
We hope these tips have inspired you to find ways to organize your kitchen space. We are always available to assist with any questions you may have.
